You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach helps learners use their intellectual abilities to explore the learning material in a manner that makes it real to them somehow. This happens through research, experiments and assignments along with regular teaching methods.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Northern Academy is such a school near us. Curro families who move to Polokwane can also easily transfer from their current school to ours! Should you want to join our school but live far away, our beautiful boarding school will be a safe, caring home away from home. Scroll through our webpage for more information.

What happens in Grade R to Grade 7

Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Teaching takes place in English and Afrikaans, and learners enjoy specialised subjects such as Robotics, Music and Bible Studies.

How big are the classes

We limit the number of learners per class to no more than 20 to 25, so that our teachers have the time and space to give personal attention to each learner, in exactly the places that they need. This is just one of the ways that we create an environment where your child will enjoy what they learn and love coming to school.

Academic support by a remedial therapist

When a teacher notices that a learner struggles academically, they reach out to you as parent, as well as to our on-site remedial therapist for evaluation (with your permission). If the therapist finds that your child will benefit from some extra support, she will arrange such sessions during school time – at no additional cost.
