You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our primary school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This gives learners a head start in their eventual workplace dreams, because they learn to take initiative and making connections between pieces of knowledge.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Should you move to the area from anywhere in the country, we can help you through the transfer so that your child’s journey with us can start easily and quickly. Learners who want the Curro education but don’t live nearby can still attend, by joining our on-site boarding school, which is a safe, caring home away from home for your child.

What happens in primary school

Our foundation phase starts by gradually helping 5-year olds get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade R. We make space and time for them to still run and play, which is an important part of a child’s education. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners have Robotics as a subject up to Grade 7.

More than academics

We believe in developing the whole child with skills, knowledge and values that go beyond what they learn in books. Our teachers model positive values, we run anti-bullying campaigns, and all our primary school learners have to participate in at least one sports or cultural activity. Our learners also participate in various high rated olympiads and we offer learner support in class and after school.

Our values

Our school is built on a balance of values that allow learners to learn and grow into the best versions of themselves. We believe that a good education is the basis on which learners can grow to become strong leaders and responsible citizens who will make a positive change in their communities.

Our value system is based on four pillars:

  • Child-friendliness
  • Positive discipline
  • Christian values (ethics and morals)
  • Creative thinking

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Activities such as art and choir help learners develop the skills to gather their thoughts and express themselves in creative ways. Our focused variety of activities, such as cross-country and public speaking, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area.
