Curro Cantare opens for Ndlovu Youth Choir at sold-out FynArts concert

A sold-out opening night at the FynArts Festival provided a memorable stage for the Curro Cantare Girls Chamber Choir, which performed as the curtain raiser for the internationally acclaimed Ndlovu Youth Choir.

The performance placed the choir in front of a large festival audience before one of South Africa’s most recognised musical groups took to the stage.

Opening the evening in style

For the members of the Curro Cantare Girls Chamber Choir, the invitation marked an opportunity to share a platform with performers who have earned international attention through their appearance as finalists on America’s Got Talent and their ongoing success around the world.

The choir opened its programme with Dance, an a cappella work that combines vocal performance with body percussion. The piece set the tone for the evening and showcased the group's musicality and stage presence.

Weeks of preparation led up to the performance, with the singers working towards making the most of the occasion.

Sharing a stage with a celebrated choir

Performing ahead of the Ndlovu Youth Choir offered more than an opportunity to sing before a large audience. It also gave the learners the chance to experience a professional production first-hand.

Following their own performance, the choir members watched the headline act's show, which delivered a blend of music, choreography and storytelling that has become synonymous with the Ndlovu Youth Choir's reputation.

The experience exposed the learners to performers who have built successful careers through commitment to their craft and a passion for music.

Music bringing people together

The evening reflected one of the core aims of festivals such as FynArts: creating spaces where artists, audiences and young performers can connect through shared cultural experiences.

For the Curro Cantare Girls Chamber Choir, the event was both a performance opportunity and a moment of growth. Sharing the opening night stage with an internationally recognised choir offered valuable experience and inspiration as the singers continue their own musical journeys.

The concert also highlighted the role music plays in bringing together people from different backgrounds while encouraging young performers to pursue their ambitions with confidence.
