Creston College learner excels at Con Spirito competition

Kate Chivers, a Grade 5 learner from Creston College, recently participated in the National Con Spirito Forte round. Here she achieved remarkable results and secured a fantastic 99% in both her English Contemporary Performance and her Broadway Musical Performance. With these outstanding results, Kate has been placed first nationally (Grades 1-7) in the 2023 Con Spirito competition.

Con Spirito offers a platform for children to develop their talents with personalised feedback to help them further develop and grow. Each participant is marked on their performance and receives a critique from experts in their cultural field.

The provincial Con Spirito round for Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal was held in Port Shepstone in March 2023. In the provincial round, Kate sang songs from her chosen categories, English Boadway/Musical Theatre and English Contemporary. During this round, she received a score of 94% and 90% respectively, and was the item winner for both her performances in the provincial round.

She was subsequently invited to attend the National (Forte) Eisteddfod round in Johannesburg in September where she sang 2 songs and scored 99% for her English Broadway song and 99% for her English Contemporary Song. She was awarded the overall best vocal across all categories Nationally for her age (Senior Primary). As a result, she was invited to the prestigious prizegiving in September 2023 to honour the country’s top achievers.
